Project Description: In August 2008, NCHH received funding to develop and deliver training and to provide technical assistance for national nonprofit organizations involved in building affordable, sustainable, and healthy homes. The purpose of this project is to demystify green building practices, to provide information about the latest innovations in green building products and techniques, and to provide practical technical assistance to community development corporations that are carrying out green building projects.

Additionally, NCHH is placing special emphasis on “greening” the more than 100 million existing housing units, particularly affordable housing units, across the country, the goal being to create new opportunities to retrofit existing housing to provide high-quality, durable homes that also promote health. This project enables NCHH to develop the tools for our partners to improve both housing and health status, which is why the green building effort is so important.
