NCHH's RRP Facility Requirements

EPA's approval for NCHH to delivery the Certified Lead Renovator Initial and Refresher courses were based on the facility described below.

Minimum Facility Requirements for All Training Courses:

  The room must be large enough that:

Each student may have a chair and access to a table during the lecture portions of the training so they can lay the binder on the table and take notes.

Each student may have enough space to conduct the required hands-on activities. The amount of space varies with the course, as noted below.

Allow students to have uninterrupted viewing of the course materials projected on a wall or screen by a computer projector.

  Students are able to take the test sitting at a table, in a chair, with a minimum of three feet in each direction before coming in contact with the next person. The students will be allowed to spread out into the hands-on activity area.

The Principal Instructor (or the Principal Instructor’s designee) can ensure that students are being monitored closely while taking the exam.

Additional Requirements for the Certified Renovator Initial Class:

  The students shall have access to sufficient doors, hard surface window sills, and hard surface floors to allow students to conduct the required hands-on exercises.

In general, each group of six students will need access to the following:

  One window sill or a horizontal surface set up to simulate a window sill;

  Either one door frame or a wall large enough to simulate a door frame;

  Ten square feet (10 sf) of hard floor surface; and

  One hundred square feet (100 sf) of floor surface (including the hard floor surface above).

Additional Requirements for the Certified Renovator Refresher Class:

  The students shall have access to sufficient hard surface window sills and hard surface floors to allow students to conduct the two required hands-on exercises: Using EPA-Recognized Test Kits and Cleaning Verification Procedure.

In general, each group of six students will need access to the following:

  One window sill (or a simulated window sill); and

  Ten square feet (10 sf) of hard floor surface.

  This approach will allow the students to work in small groups, rotating responsibilities, and to repeat the procedure as needed to ensure each student has demonstrated competency.

NCHH encourages instructors within its RRP training network to establish permanent training facilities.  A "permanent training facility" may be any location meeting the criteria described above at which trainers teach any of the RRP classes consistently.  It does not have to be a site owned by the instructor or the instructor's organization, although such sites are welcome. Permanent facilities are listed as NCHH training sites on the EPA website. To submit a permanent training site for EPA approval, contact Jessica Lucas.
