Community Information: The Tampa-Saint Petersburg-Clearwater MSA is comprised of Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties, Florida. In 2007, the MSA included 1,074,900 occupied dwellings, 20.8% of which were located in the central cities of Tampa, Saint Petersburg, and Clearwater. The housing stock of the MSA ranks among the youngest and least heavily rental of the cities surveyed. The percentage of post-1940 homes ranked 5th (2.6%) for the MSA and 14th (9.8%) for the central city. The median house age in the Tampa-Saint Petersburg-Clearwater MSA was 1979. The percentage of rental units ranked 20th (24.5%) for the MSA and 1st (37.0%) for the central city. Compared to other locations, Tampa-Saint Petersburg-Clearwater had a higher poverty rate for the MSA and a lower poverty rate for the central city. Its poverty rate ranked 23rd (11.5%) for the entire MSA and 9th (12.9%) for the homes in central city.
