Community Information: The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is comprised of Riverside and San Bernardino counties in California. In 2002, the MSA included 1,083,900 occupied dwelling units, 17.4% of which were located in the central cities of San Bernardino and Riverside. The housing stock of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario MSA ranks among the youngest and most heavily rentals of the cities surveyed. The percentage of post-1940 homes ranked 6th (3.0%) for the MSA and 3rd (5.3%) for the central city. The median house age in the San Bernardino-Riverside MSA was 1979. The percentage of rental units ranked 30th (27.4%) for the MSA and 4th (38.4%) for the central city. Compared to other locations, San Bernardino-Riverside had a lower poverty rate, ranking 19th (10.7%) for the entire MSA and 11th (13.7%) for the homes in the central city.
