The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) final rule regarding standards for the identification of dangerous levels of lead took effect March 6, 2001. The standards identify when lead-based paint, lead-contaminated dust, and lead-contaminated soil are hazards. It also establishes residential dust clean-up (clearance) levels and revises dust and soil sampling requirements.
